The farm was started by the State Animal Husbandry Department in 1962 in 106 acres of land in Piravanthoor village, 5 km north-west of Punalur town, near Kallada river. Subsequently it was converted into a Buffalo breeding center. A decade lateras part of farm expansionother livestock were also incoperated. In 2017 Hitech Dairy unit was installed. Currently the farm is directlt under the control of Kollam Jilla Panchayath. As part of the tourism projectthe farm s also home to Ostriches, emus, horses etc. now
Govt. Hi-tech Dairy Farm and Farm Tourism Centre is spread across 106 acres of land on the banks of Kallada river about 5 KM. from Punalur Town in Kollam District.
Govt. Hi-tech Dairy Farm, Kuriyottumala, one of the largest livestock farms of Animal Husbandry Department, Kerala, was started as a dry stock farm in 1962. Dry cows and heifers of farmers were received in the farm and returned after conception. Buffalo rearing started in July 1982 and farm was renamed to Buffalo Breeding farm. Later on dairy cattle, goat and rabbit rearing were introduced. In 2017 farm was coverted to Hi-techDairy Farm.
Currently the farm houses nearly, 600 heads ofcross breed cattle, a few native dwarf/cattle, various breeds of goat & rabbit, ostrich, emus and horse. Under the guidance of Kollam Jilla Panchayath the fram is exploring the possibility of tourism.
